The Cabildo of Lanzarote has promoted a new school initiative. The students of the CEIP Alcalde Rafael Cedrés carried out a planting of different trees, with the aim of reforesting the area of the Casa Mayor Guerra de San Bartolomé and generating a shaded area for future enjoyment.
The boys and girls of the school carried out this action as part of the prize of the campaign A forest of Ecopilas 2023, a project promoted by the Department of Waste of the Cabildo of Lanzarote.
The acting Minister of Waste, Hugo Delgado, stressed that "the campaign closed with the participation of 42 schools, which contributed a total of 498 kilos in a period of only six months" and was "pleasantly surprised with the results."
Delgado stressed that "this type of campaign is very important for Lanzarote, which as a Biosphere Reserve is always committed to being a sustainable island and to raising awareness among the youngest."
The fundamental axis of this kind of initiatives is to take to the educational centers different projects focused on recycling and environmental awareness, so that the children are responsible for spreading the culture of recycling.
