The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through the Department of Heritage, will invest nearly "400,000 euros" in the preservation and dissemination of the heritage of the Zonzamas archaeological site. To this end, a service has been tendered for intervention in this essential site for understanding the aboriginal history of the island.

In addition, it should be remembered that the cultural association Pueblo Maho of Lanzarote already denounced this June the "high degree of deterioration of the facilities" in the archaeological site. "It does not seem that the Cabildo is satisfied with Zonzamas being included in the red list of heritage sites due to its poor condition, but continues to make the necessary effort to keep it there," they added.

The councilor, Ascensión Toledo, has thanked the staff of her department and the Contracting area "for their dedication and effort to expedite the awarding of this contract, highlighting the importance of these actions for the conservation and promotion of the historical heritage of the island."

The action in Zonzamas seeks "not only the preservation of heritage, but also its dissemination among the population." One of the first actions taken is the replacement of the perimeter fence of one of the areas of the site with a galvanized steel structure, which guarantees "greater durability" against the weather conditions that usually occur in the place, known for its strong winds.

This contract includes a series of actions aimed at "dissemination and education" about archaeological heritage. Guided tours will also be organized, both for schoolchildren of all levels and for the adult population, with special hours on weekends. In addition, educational talks will be held and a series of videos will be recorded that will highlight the discoveries made to date and explore the future of the site.

One of the elements that give this site a special historical and heritage interest is the cheese dairy, a rock manifestation that consists of longitudinal channels carved into basalt blocks, which could have been used for daily activities such as grinding or for the collection and storage of water. It also includes several deep houses, highlighting the Palace of Zonzamas or Cueva del Majo, where there are engravings and remains of malacofauna, ceramics, animal bones and aboriginal knives.
