The Cabildo of Lanzarote is the only one that fails in transparency, according to data provided by the Transparency Commissioner of the Canary Islands. While the other six cabildos almost double their level of transparency in 2017: they obtain an average of 6.93 in the ITCanarias, the first corporation of Lanzarote barely reaches 4.52 out of ten.

According to the Transparency Commissioner, "the arithmetic average of the island corporations goes from 3.85 points (out of 10) reached for the year 2016 to 6.93 in 2017." "It reflects a significant effort in improving their transparency portals, the largest of the four administrative levels of the Canary Islands, including universities. Since they began their own self-assessment, the transparency portals have progressed a lot," says the Transparency Commissioner of the Canary Islands, Daniel Cerdán. The average weighted by the population of each island goes from 5.24 in 2016 to 7.25 in 2017, because the most populated islands get higher scores.

The councils of Tenerife, El Hierro, Fuerteventura, La Gomera, Gran Canaria and La Palma score more than 6 points in the 2017 transparency evaluation of the Canary Islands Commissioner. The Cabildo of Lanzarote, however, barely reaches 4.52 points out of ten.

The island corporation with the best score in the ITCanarias 2017 index is the Cabildo of Tenerife, with 8.43, while in 2016 it had 5.61. It is also the island institution that has best accounted for in this matter because almost all of its dependent entities also presented their self-assessment of transparency through the electronic application of the Commissioner, "T-Canaria".

The most unique case in this evaluation is that of the Cabildo of El Hierro, since from one year to another the score has increased by almost 7 points: from 0.76 in 2016, when it had no transparency portal, to 8.21 in 2017, with this well-structured and quite complete website.

The Cabildo of Fuerteventura doubles its achievement in this matter: it goes from 3.97 points in 2016 to 7.58 in 2017. The same happens with the portal of the Cabildo of La Gomera: 2.59 in 2016, and 6.87 points in 2017.

The Cabildo of Gran Canaria obtained 5.49 in 2016 and in 2017 it increased one point, up to 6.50. In sixth place, the Island Council of La Palma achieves a similar improvement to that of Gran Canaria, with 5.54 in 2016, and 6.41 points in 2017.

Finally, the Island Council of Lanzarote is the most lagging behind in 2017, despite improving by more than one and a half points: it rises from 3.01 in 2016 to 4.52 in 2017.
