The Cabildo of Lanzarote expresses its condolences for the death of Lorenzo Olarte

The President of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, on his behalf and on behalf of the entire Corporation, has expressed his condolences for the sad death today of Lorenzo Olarte Cullen, former President of the Government of the Canary Islands between 1988 and 1991. 

“Sadly, we have to say goodbye to Lorenzo Olarte, one of the most influential politicians in the Canary Islands, an avid defender of our democracy and with a great vision of politics, not in vain he was appointed advisor to the President of the Government of Spain, Adolfo Suárez”, says Oswaldo Betancort.

“On behalf of the Corporation and on my own”, he adds, “I want to convey our most sincere condolences to all the family, friends and relatives of Lorenzo Olarte. Rest in peace”. 

Lorenzo Olarte, 91 years old, had been hospitalized for several days in a hospital in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in serious condition and, finally, died today surrounded by his family. 

Olarte was president of the Government of the Canary Islands between 1988 and 1991; vice president and Minister of Tourism between 1995 and 1999, president of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria between 1974 and 1979, as well as a deputy in Congress and in the Parliament of the Canary Islands, among other positions.
