The Cabildo of Lanzarote celebrates the new hospitality sector agreement signed by the UGT and CCOO unions and the Las Palmas Federation of Hospitality and Tourism Businessmen.
In the words of the President of the Cabildo, María Dolores Corujo, who met this Monday with representatives of the UGT and CCOO unions, "this agreement is a very important step for the Canary Islands, but especially for Lanzarote, because as has been proven, we are the island in which tourism has a greater weight."
In addition, the president wanted to express her gratitude to all parties involved. "During the months of the pandemic, the administrations mobilized an unprecedented volume of public resources in the protection of people but also of companies. We did it from the conviction that the best way to preserve employment and wealth was to maintain the business fabric. Now, this agreement shows that we are not mistaken, that the business part makes an important effort to try to maintain the purchasing power of workers," Corujo said.
One of the most important points addressed in this new agreement is the salary increase of 10.25% until 2025: 3% for 2022, 2.5% for 2023, 2.5% for 2024 and 2.25% for 2025. In addition, the new agreement also includes social improvements such as, for example, those specific to possible oncological diseases of workers or the regulation of breaks between split shift days.
The spokesperson for UGT Lanzarote wanted to emphasize in her speech that "for the first time in this agreement there will be no freezing or salary absorption." Likewise, she insisted on the triumph that it supposes and how "satisfied" they are "for having reached this point."
