The Cabildo of Lanzarote marks with the team of economists the lines to get out of the crisis on the island

In the middle of the week, the first of the working sessions began with the economic team that will advise the Cabildo of Lanzarote to overcome the crisis caused by Covid-19. Thus, the president of the Island Corporation, María Dolores Corujo, the Minister of Tourism, Ángel Vázquez, and Cabildo technicians met with the team of economists formed by José Carlos Díez, Miguel Sebastián and Daniel Lacalle.

In this meeting, the guidelines were defined to face the challenge of overcoming the crisis in which Lanzarote is immersed. The meeting served so that both the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the Minister of Tourism could transfer the weaknesses and strengths that should be included in the economic report and study that Díez, Sebastián and Lacalle will develop. A document in which they must provide both information and solutions to remedy the current situation.

On the one hand, the immediate future was addressed, analyzing how the tourist destination should behave taking into account Covid-19. Thus, they explained how to improve the safety of the destination and how to better control the arrival of tourists for the safety of the population of Lanzarote and the visitors themselves.

Future themes were also addressed, such as digitalization, included in the New Generation European funds; or the green economy and the carbon footprint, included in the financing lines oriented to the green economy.

Likewise, this meeting addressed the development of an effective economic diversification plan so that, together with actors related to Tourism, Lanzarote can have complementary sectors that maintain high levels of quality employability.

Finally, the recovery plan for Europe was taken into account. In this sense, the attendees agreed that it will be very important that the large strategic projects of the island have a place within the European plan to exit the Covid-19 crisis. That is why they assured that Lanzarote may be facing an unrepeatable opportunity to improve and update the island.
