The Cabildo considers closing the parking lot of "Las Grietas" of Montaña Blanca

The alternative being considered to visit the place safely is "designing a network of trails that lead to Las Grietas"

The Cabildo of Lanzarote is considering the option of closing the parking lot of "Las Grietas" of Montaña Blanca and enabling trail networks for visitors to access the place safely. A few days ago the spokesman for CC in the City Council of Tías, Amado Vizcaíno, criticized that in the area you can see “vehicles completely stopped waiting for the departure of some other vehicle from the aforementioned parking lot, others that make U-turns and pedestrians crossing the road, with the consequent danger.”

“If you go along the right side of the road towards San Bartolomé, the access area to "Las Grietas" is enabled by a water passage. It is not exactly an access area, it is a water passage that is on that road. Therefore, the option being considered is to design a network of trails that lead to Las Grietas,” explains the Councilor for Public Works of the Cabildo and Sports, Alfredo Mendoza.

The Councilor for Public Works also points out that “there is a proposal from the Tías City Council to place beacons in that area to prevent the parking of vehicles” and attributes the increase in visits to "Las Grietas" to the “instagrammers”, the users of the social network Instagram. “With geolocation, when they post a publication their followers know exactly where they are and everyone goes to this place, which was previously little known,” adds Mendoza.

We do not want to move the problem from one place to another by removing it from one place. Surely the problem that the Tías City Council has that affects its municipality, as soon as we close the parking lot, we will move it to the nearest municipality, which is San Bartolomé. So we are going to try to see what the best solution is and implement it as soon as possible,” concludes the Councilor for Public Works.
