The Plenary of the Cabildo held last Saturday unanimously approved the credit modification file and modification of a nominated subsidy to the Lanzarote Water Consortium for the execution of the “Program for the installation of renewable energies and distribution networks included in the Lanzarote 2016-2025 FDCAN Strategy”.

The delegate president of the Water Consortium, Andrés Stinga, highlighted that “the approval of the credit modification file for the execution of the Program for the installation of renewable energies and distribution networks is a fundamental step to be able to have the installation operating by the end of the year and continue promoting our commitment to an energy model that contributes to curbing climate change.”

It should be noted that the execution of the project in which both the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the different island councils participate is practically finished. Therefore, the Finance Commission issued a favorable opinion on the credit modification, understanding that “the project is of great magnitude and will allow the island of Lanzarote to have the necessary facilities and mechanisms to function with renewable energies in a clean and sustainable way,” said the Minister of Finance, Rosa Callero, during the plenary session.

This modification allows the Treasury to take the 1,500,000 euros item from the FDCAN funds and include it in the capital transfer item to pass the money to the Lanzarote Water Consortium and finish the small part that remains of this program for the installation of renewable energies and distribution networks, which is estimated to be completed during the month of December.

The Lanzarote Water Consortium has been a beneficiary for the period 2019/2020 of the FDCAN funds (Canary Islands Development Fund, created and regulated by Decree 85/2016, of July 4. It is intended to promote the realization of actions that contribute to territorial economic and social cohesion, as well as the economic development of the Canary Islands and the creation of employment in the islands) for the execution of the “Program for the Installation of Renewable Energies and Distribution Networks included in the Lanzarote 2016/2025 Strategy (FDCAN)”.

The Arrecife Wind Farm is a project covered by the line of aid for Low Carbon Economy projects, in electricity production facilities with wind and photovoltaic technologies, located in non-peninsular territories, co-financed by the EUROPEAN REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT FUND (ERDF) and managed by the IDAE, with the aim of achieving a cleaner and more sustainable economy under the slogan “A way of making Europe”.
