Meeting of the Island Waste Board

The Waste Councilor of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Hugo Delgado, has chaired the Island Waste Table, which was attended telematically by the councilors and technicians of the area of the municipalities of the island in order to adapt the current plans to the new objectives set out in the European Union's Circular Economy Package.

In this sense, Hugo Delgado explained that "improving waste management is a priority to contribute to the sustainability of the island" and pointed out that with the adaptation to the new regulations "it is intended to protect and improve the environment, ensure the efficient use of resources and promote the principles on which the development of a circular economy is based".

The councilor stressed the importance of local and island administrations working "together" to "enhance the protection of the environment through the application of measures that allow, among other things, to insularize the collection of biodegradable waste".

Specifically, the work of the Board focuses on adapting the Canary Islands Comprehensive Waste Plan and the Lanzarote and La Graciosa Waste Master Plan to the new European strategy designed to reduce, reuse and recycle waste and make greater use of the resources used and the goods and services generated throughout their useful life.
