The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through the Hunting and Environment Areas, held this Wednesday a coordination meeting with the seven municipalities of the island and representatives of the different state security forces and bodies with the aim of reinforcing game surveillance during the hunting season.

The meeting, chaired by Councilor Samuel Martín, was attended by the island delegate of the Government, Pedro Viera, as well as members of the Civil Guard, Seprona, Environmental agents, the Local Police, councilors of the municipalities, Cabildo technicians and representatives of the Hunters Society of the island.

During the meeting, the most sensitive areas from an environmental point of view were analyzed and joint lines of action were agreed to guarantee compliance with current regulations, as well as to prevent risk situations or improper behaviors during the exercise of hunting.

“Joint work and coordination between administrations and security forces is essential to ensure that hunting activity is carried out in a regulated, safe and respectful manner with our natural environment,” said Samuel Martín, who thanked the willingness and collaboration of all participants in this working table.

Likewise, the councilor recalled the importance of making the practice of hunting compatible with the protection of the environment, and stressed that “surveillance does not seek to sanction, but to guarantee an orderly hunt that respects both the biodiversity of Lanzarote and the regulations that regulate it.”

The Cabildo highlights that "this planning will allow optimizing the available resources and improving the effectiveness of surveillance actions, especially in protected natural spaces and areas of special ecological sensitivity".
