The Cabildo of Lanzarote has approved this week, in the Governing Council, the final resolution of the concession of a package of subsidies of 998,469.25 euros to support the agricultural sector. The aid, granted in a non-competitive concurrence regime, will benefit a total of 21 agricultural and livestock organizations from Lanzarote and La Graciosa to cover the operating expenses, rents and training actions of their different projects.

The president and island councilor of Agriculture, Oswaldo Betancort, highlighted that the aid signed last Monday reflects "the Corporation's support for the agricultural and livestock association network, and the promotion of strategic initiatives to improve competitiveness and cooperativism in the primary sector. It is our duty to continue strengthening these activities as engines of economic and social development of Lanzarote and La Graciosa," he explained.

Betancort also hopes that these subsidies will contribute to the food sovereignty and ecological production of both islands, as well as to improve the positioning of the sector's products in local and national markets. "We want to convey to the organizations and associations that they are not alone and that we will accompany them to reduce the impact of the high costs of their activity so that they can look to the future with the hope of achieving new opportunities," he said.

Subsidies that achieve a greater scope

The two axes of the aid were divided into a 'Line A' for operating expenses, with an amount exceeding 525,369 euros, and a 'Line B' for project expenses amounting to 473,100 euros

In total, the Corporation has increased the economic allocation by 250,000 euros during this year to strengthen the groups in the primary sector, reaching a greater number of companies (six more have benefited than during the previous call), such as the Cultural Association for the Development and Promotion of the Canarian Camel in Lanzarote (ACALAN), and two specific associations in the poultry sector, to give a few examples.

Another agreement of the Governing Council was the extension of the execution and justification period for the beneficiaries of the 'Line B Project Expenses'. The application period will be until October 15, while the justification period will be between October 15 and November 30, or earlier if the activity for which the subsidy has been granted has ended.
