The Lanzarote Island Council's Plenary session, held this Friday, included in its agenda a budget modification for the granting of subsidies aimed at supporting the work carried out by entities that work for the welfare and protection of animals on the island. In total, 200,000 euros will be allocated to two associations that play an essential role in defending animal rights and promoting responsible ownership.

The Animal and Plant Protection Association SARA will receive 150,000 euros for the development of the project "Help to help them - Animal Welfare," which includes actions aimed at the protection of animals, the fight against abuse and abandonment, the promotion of responsible breeding and sale, as well as identification, vaccination and sterilization campaigns and the organization of training and outreach activities.

For its part, the LanzaAnimal Association will have 50,000 euros for the project "Sheltering abandoned and/or mistreated animals for their rehabilitation," aimed at the recovery of farm animals that have suffered situations of abandonment or mistreatment, with the aim of reinserting them into educational and social projects.

The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, highlighted that "this agreement demonstrates the sensitivity and commitment of this Corporation to animal welfare and to the entities that, day after day, dedicate their time and effort to caring for the animals that need it most." Betancort stressed that "in Lanzarote we cannot look the other way in the face of abandonment or animal abuse; we must work together, administrations and associations, to build a more just and respectful island for all living beings."

The Councillor for Animal Welfare, Armando Santana, indicated that "these grants are a recognition of the tireless work of associations such as SARA and LanzaAnimal with the aim of financing projects that promote the protection of animals and the fight against mistreatment and abandonment." Santana added that "from the Cabildo we will continue to promote policies that encourage responsible ownership, education and citizen awareness about respect and care for animals."
