Arrecife was lit up on Wednesday night with the colors of the Canary Islands. That night, after the end of the Los Sabandeños concert in the José Ramírez Cerdá Park, the tallest building in Arrecife and Lanzarote, the Arrecife Gran Hotel, was lit up with the colors of the Canary Islands. In addition, the sign with the name of the city, at the entrances on the main road from the airport, displays the official colors of the Canary Islands flag this week.
The city's mayor, Yonathan de León, has promoted the lighting of this large sign in Arrecife, recently reinstalled near the roundabout where the Vía Medular and the LZII meet, with the colors white, blue and yellow, for the celebration of Canary Islands Day. A celebration that in 2024 is more special for the capital of Lanzarote, where the 225th anniversary of the founding of the municipality of Arrecife is being commemorated. An initiative from the mayor's office, with the collaboration of the hotel management, and carried out by the staff assigned to the Municipal Public Lighting Service, attached to the Department of Public Works of the City Council.
In addition, the mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, did not want to miss the opportunity to congratulate the residents of Arrecife on Canary Islands Day, making it clear that "this celebration should strengthen all citizens, with the same exciting strength as our ancestors who saw the Port of Arrecife with a future, a future that is already present and the great and transformative changes throughout the city are glimpsed."
"I want to dedicate a few words to all the residents of Arrecife, and thank them for their trust during this almost first year as mayor of the city where I was born 40 years ago. My commitment is to the neighborhoods, to the entire city. I confirm that I will continue to strive, every day, to continue working hard so that Arrecife continues to advance," he emphasized.
"Arrecife is going full steam ahead, we are sailing with the winds in our favor, because for the first time, after many decades, the residents perceive and see that our city and capital is on the right track," the capital's mayor highlighted.
"We have years full of challenges ahead of us, of changes, modernization, improvement of public services, which have as their objective the entire Government group in making Arrecife the true third capital of the Canary Islands. So that we can live in a better city for all, where living together, working, enjoying, dreaming and being happy are reasons for identity of the new Arrecife that we are projecting together," he highlighted in the words he conveys to the citizens for Canary Islands Day.
"We must, with the desire of each and every one, be able to achieve, together, that Arrecife is a better city. That is my commitment, and I am sure that it is the commitment of all of us who were born here, or destiny and life, has brought them here to reside, and live together in our city. Since its origins, Arrecife and the entire Canary Islands has been a melting pot of cultures, islands twinned with people who feel this land as if it were their own. Because the celebration of Canary Islands Day symbolizes all that: sharing the love and dedication to the land that welcomes us and in which we live and work," concludes the message from Yonathan de León, who wanted to share this May 30.
Yonathan de León is pleased that this celebration of Canary Islands Day comes with many changes in the transformation of the city's urban image. The first mayor, who was born in the Las Salinas neighborhood, a few meters from where the large sign with the name of the city is located, feels a great honor to lead the Municipal Government group in this mandate where many transformations are projected in the public spaces of the city's neighborhoods, and in its maritime front.
