The Arrecife City Council has indicated that it is "intensifying initiatives" to support Lanzarote's primary sector, taking advantage of the commercial showcase of the Plaza de Las Palmas. To which it has added that the Recova will soon join as a food market, with a project already approved and carried out during this term, and which will go out to tender this summer.

In addition, this weekend the Department of Commerce has launched the revitalization campaign "How good Arrecife tastes to me!", where local products, commercial and hospitality revitalization (which offers products from the Conejero countryside in its gastronomy) and the enhancement of the traditions of Arrecife and Lanzarote are promoted, recovering the tradition of going to the market.

The first revitalization day

The first day of this revitalization plan kicked off last May 23rd in the Plaza de Las Palmas, where the Traditional Market of Arrecife is set up every Saturday next to the church of San Ginés.

That day, which was attended by the mayor, Yonathan de León, and the councilor for Commerce and Tourism, Eli Merino, achieved a large attendance. As a result of this initiative, during Sunday morning, the Parranda Marinera de Buches and the Agrupación Coros y Danzas de Arrecife performed, two benchmarks of the island's popular and traditional heritage.

The Plaza de Las Palmas experienced an intense day, where support for the island's primary sector was also shown, in this most emblematic open-air commercial space in Arrecife and Lanzarote.

The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, has highlighted and valued the success of this promotional initiative which "aims to bring local products and our traditions closer to the citizens, also bringing movement and revitalization to this space so important for Arrecife, such as the Traditional Market, and the surrounding commercial and hospitality areas, to which, very soon, with the projects underway, we will offer the opening of La Recova as a food market and gastronomic area, and La Pescadería Municipal, with a renewed project, both ideas already on their way to materializing very soon".

For her part, the Councilor for Commerce, Eli Merino, stressed that other short-term initiatives will be added to this revitalization initiative where this launch of "‘¡Qué bien me sabe Arrecife!"  has been born to endure and strengthen our city as a gastronomic, commercial, leisure, and hospitality destination where the Traditional Market and soon the Food Market in La Recova, will act as a catalyst to attract both the local consumer and the visitor who seeks and chooses these spaces. We will continue, as we have seen this weekend, creating new activities that allow us to highlight our roots and at the same time support local trade and products”.

This action, developed last Saturday in Arrecife, has been part of the project Potenciar y Promover Producción y Consumo de Producto Local (Enhance and Promote Local Product Production and Consumption), financed through a nominated subsidy from the Cabildo Insular de Lanzarote, which reinforces tradition, commerce, gastronomy, and local products.

The campaign ¡Qué bien me sabe Arrecife! (How good Arrecife tastes to me!) will include various cultural, gastronomic, and promotional activities in different spaces of the municipality in the coming weeks, reinforcing commercial revitalization and the visibility of local products from Arrecife and Lanzarote.
