The Canary Islands Government Council has approved this Monday a budget modification of 200,000 euros to finance a first campaign to clean black wells in La Graciosa. This file, processed by the Ministry of Territorial Policy, Territorial Cohesion and Water, is the first intended to finance the emptying and maintenance of septic tanks and filtering wells on the island.
The Minister of Territorial Policy, Manuel Miranda, explained that this fulfills the commitment made to the residents of La Graciosa last August, in a meeting in which his department presented the roadmap for the construction of a new sanitation and water supply system, as well as the measures that will be taken while the drafting and execution of both projects lasts.
The file approved this Monday will allow the Teguise City Council to be subsidized with 200,000 euros, an administration that will assume the contracting and execution of the cleaning work, which is currently supported by homeowners and businesses on the island. The 2025 budgets include another item of 400,000 euros to continue financing these cleaning works.
The roadmap designed by the Ministry of Territorial Policy, Territorial Cohesion and Water for the island of La Graciosa includes two new projects to complete the sanitation and purification works, which have been paralyzed since 2017, as well as to replace the water supply pipe from Lanzarote. The complexity of both works requires the processing of a planning suspension and the declaration of work of general interest, in which the government is already working.
