The Arrecife City Council has put out to tender the rehabilitation of two homes located on Timbayba Street in the Titerroy neighborhood. This announcement comes sixteen years after a young man died when the roof of his room, located at number 40 of this street, collapsed.

As a result of the incident, up to seven homes were temporarily evacuated, but the situation became chronic and some of the residents have died without being able to return to their homes. Among them, the Titerroy resident Candelaria Díaz, mother of the young man who lost his life in that collapse, who passed away last August without returning to her home.

The Arrecife City Councilman for Youth, Seniors, and Housing, Rosmen Quevedo, reported this Wednesday morning on the morning show Buenos días, Lanzarote that he has put out to tender the rehabilitation of two of the seven evacuated homes in the neighborhood.

On the public platform Contratación del Estado (State Contracting), Arrecife has put out to tender the rehabilitation of the house located at number 34 Calle Timbayba and the demolition and reconstruction of the building located at number 40, where Candelaria Díaz and her son lived.

The contract value amounts to 201,352 euros, taxes included, with a completion period of six months.

The councilor highlighted that this case is "the Achilles' heel of the Housing and Technical Office area" and that the Arrecife City Council is working to unblock the situation. At the same time, Quevedo announced that there are five homes pending rehabilitation, but that the residents of two of them have renounced their rehabilitation.

At the same time, the Titerroy Neighborhood Association has publicly lamented that the Arrecife City Council has not offered them a formal response regarding the bidding for these homes and that "prior communication" has not been given to the affected residents. In this regard, it has requested the complete list of affected homes.
