The Yaiza City Council has published this Wednesday on its electronic headquarters the technical and administrative specifications to tender and contract for "seven years the new daily garbage collection and transportation service of the municipality with a total budget forecast of 23.2 million euros." The company that wins the public tender must take charge of collecting organic waste, fraction remains, domestic oil, household goods, electrical appliances and domestic pruning, among other obligations. Interested companies can submit offers until May 16.

The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, has stated that "the collection and transportation of waste is an essential service that we clearly want to improve, therefore, we are reserving 2.8 million in this year's budget to cover it. The service also has an important environmental component, so in the specifications we detail the separate collection of the different fractions deposited in the containers for their subsequent transportation and management."

The service will be provided from Monday to Sunday and the frequency of container washing must be at least once a week in the case of organic waste containers and once every fifteen days in the remaining fraction. The Councilor for Cleaning of Yaiza, Rubén Arca, has explained that "the successful bidder must collect the waste that is or could fall outside the containers at the time of emptying them because these remains not only pose a threat to public health, but also project a negative image of our municipality."

The company also acquires the commitment to supply, install, replace and maintain the containers, trucks, machinery and facilities required for the optimal provision of the service. "As we have conveyed to neighbors, residents, businessmen and hoteliers, the specifications are complete and ambitious, but the companies that aspire to win the contract will surely propose improvements that will be evaluated by the responsible person," the mayor highlights.

Mobile recycling centers

One of the novelties of the new service will be the mobile recycling centers for the different southern towns. The company must implement a collection service using a container on a truck or specific vehicle equipped with easily accessible containers for the separate collection of oil, aerosols, batteries, low-consumption light bulbs, printer ink cartridges and toners, CDs, DVDs, video tapes, fluorescent lights, mobile phone batteries, paints, solvents, plastics and PVC, X-ray plates, waste from small electrical and electronic appliances and medicines, among others.

In addition to the municipal environmental awareness campaigns, the successful bidder will also promote good citizen habits for the separation at source and the deposit of waste in the corresponding containers.
