Parliament of the Canary Islands

Regarding the regional elections of May 28, the lists of political parties running for the Canary Islands Parliament 2023 have already been published. The Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC) has collected this Wednesday all the candidacies announced by Lanzarote.

Ten political formations among which are: the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE), the Popular Party (PP), Vox, Canarian Coalition, Nueva Canarias, Más Canatias, Reunir Canarias Sostenible, Drago Verdes Canarias, Unidas Sí Podemos and the Canarian Nationalist Party.

Leading the list each party has presented: the PSOE to the current president of the Cabildo, María Dolores Corujo, the PP to the current mayor of the Arrecife City Council, Astrid Pérez, Vox to José Luis Cubillo, Canarian Coalition to Migdalia María Machin, Nueva Canarias to Yone Xarach Caraballo, Más Canarias to Javier Navarro Laso, Reunir Canarias Sostenible to Nahum Cabrera Betancort, Drago Verdes Canarias to Rafael Jiménez Tortosa, Unidas Sí Podemos to Nona Perera and the Canarian Nationalist Party to Francisco José Martín Espinosa.

The regional list

The autonomous constituency is the most crowded, the only one in which all voters can vote and in which the weight of each vote is the same, regardless of the island of residence.

Twenty candidacies compete for that regional list and the main parties tend to head it with their candidate for regional president, although not always.

Among the parties that have parliamentary representation, the PSOE competes in the regional list with Ángel Víctor Torres at the head, Canarian Coalition with Fernando Clavijo, the PP with Manuel Domínguez, Nueva Canarias with Román Rodríguez, USP with Hugo Cejas, Ciudadanos with Manuel de Prado Ordas, the Canarian Nationalist Party with José María Hernández and Unidos por Gran Canaria with Ana Sharife.

The other candidacies that aspire to access the Parliament for the first time on the regional list are Drago Verdes Canarias (DVC), Más Canarias (+C), Unión Democrática de Canarias (UDC), Contigo Somos Democracia, Ahora Tú, Asambleas Municipales de Fuerteventura (AMF), País con Gestores, Vox, Reunir Canarias Sostenible, Ahora Canarias Partido Comunista del Pueblo Canario, Partido Animalista con el Medio Ambiente (Pacma) and Movimiento por la Unidad, Descolonización e Independencia del Pueblo Canario.
