This past Thursday, Carmen Rosa Ramón Villalba kicked off the Teguise Festivities in honor of Nuestra Señora del Carmen. Born on July 30, 1971, Carmen Rosa Ramón is one of the residents of the municipality who has collaborated over the years with the town's celebrations.
Ramón recalled how they came together "to organize parties, raffles and games, and how the smells of sweets, such as mantecados and mimos from Maruja and Censa, evoked memories of the party most awaited by the residents of the municipality." On the other hand, the neighbor shared with the attendees her memories and experiences from her childhood. She emphasized the importance of this celebration for the local community and mentioned her grandmother's devotion to this festivity, as well as the "dedication of her mother, who worked as a seamstress making dresses with her sewing machine to wear them on Carmen's Day."
At the event, the mayor of Teguise, Olivia Duque, highlighted "the essence of our celebrations and the importance of keeping our customs alive." For his part, the Councilor for Festivities, Javier Díaz, encouraged the residents to enjoy the festivity that will end on July 17. "Both residents and visitors will be able to enjoy championships, festivals, wrestling, popular barbecue and foam parties, among others," he commented.
The rest of the evening was marked by the performances of three musicians from the Municipal School of Teguise, the clarinetists Marta Curbelo and Joel Miguel, and the pianist Javier Díaz.
Finally, the mayor and the councilor presented Carmen Rosa with a commemorative painting in recognition of her contribution and dedication to the Festivities of Nuestra Señora del Carmen.
