The Teguise City Council has not yet requested the Department of Health for an analysis of the water on the municipality's beaches to find out if they are optimal or not for bathing after the torrential rains and floods of last April 12.
This was confirmed this Monday by the Councilor for Beaches, Rita Hernández, to La Voz, assuring that "on the recommendation of Public Health, we must wait for the waters to calm down." In this sense, the councilor explained that an analysis of the water on the beaches is carried out every month and that the next study to find out its condition is scheduled for May 5.
Despite not having confirmed whether the beaches are suitable for bathing after the floods, the beaches have remained open to the public and bathers have been seen in Las Cucharas, next to a large circle of sludge, despite the fact that the corresponding tests have not been carried out to find out if it is safe to enter the water.
As you may recall, the heavy rains of more than two weeks ago caused problems in Arrecife and Costa Teguise, where hotels, streets and establishments were affected. Beaches as touristy as Las Cucharas or Los Charcos continue to be full of mud and sediments that were dragged by the ravines and that, in addition, can be seen in the color of the water.
For its part, the Arrecife City Council did request an analysis from Public Health of the municipality's beaches on April 16, four days after the rains, as confirmed by the Consistory to this editorial team. These tests confirmed, according to Arrecife, that "the waters were optimal for bathing" at that time.
