The Teguise City Council has activated a new plan for cleaning drains and infiltration wells in all the town's districts, with the aim of preventing incidents in anticipation of the arrival of autumn and winter rains.
The work, which began on September 17 and will continue until the end of the year, is being carried out by municipal vehicle fleet personnel under the coordination of the Department of Roads and Works. In total, the cleaning of more than 500 drains distributed in Costa Teguise, Tahíche, Las Caletas, Guatiza and the rest of the municipality's towns is planned.
The mayor of Teguise, Olivia Duque, emphasized that "these actions are essential to maintain the drainage system in perfect condition and anticipate possible episodes of heavy rains. With this cleaning campaign, we are reinforcing the safety of citizens, road traffic, and the quality of life in our towns."
For his part, the Councilor for Roads and Works, Eugenio Robayna, explained that "this plan is executed every year around this time to guarantee that all the filtering wells are prepared for the rainy season. It is a constant job that will continue until the end of December and in all the towns of the municipality."
On this occasion, the municipal teams have intensified efforts in areas with a higher risk of water accumulation. The tasks consist of removing sludge, leaves, sand, and other debris that hinder water filtration, thus ensuring that the evacuation systems function effectively during the months with the highest rainfall.
