The Teguise City Council has definitively approved this Wednesday its Municipal Budget for this year 2026 in the ordinary session of the Plenary of the Corporation. It is a key tool to guarantee economic stability, responsible planning, and the fulfillment of the government program.
With this definitive approval, the government group "consolidates a roadmap focused on the strengthening of public services, the execution of strategic investments and the continuous improvement of municipal management".
The mayor of Teguise, Olivia Duque, has emphasized that “this budget is not just an economic document, it is the guarantee that we continue to advance with responsibility, fulfilling commitments and providing the City Council with stability to continue transforming the municipality.”
During the plenary session, a decisive step was also taken in the development of the LEC “TODA Lanzarote”, Island-wide Local Energy Community. A project promoted in collaboration with the Cabildo de Lanzarote and the Chamber of Commerce, which positions Teguise as an island reference in collective self-consumption.
After approving in 2025 the transfer of municipal building rooftops for the installation of photovoltaic panels, the Plenary has given the green light to the self-consumption model, which will allow the energy generated in socio-cultural centers and other municipal infrastructures to be distributed in shares among residents and small businesses that integrate into the energy community.
The agreement also contemplates that, in case not all participations are initially covered, the City Council will assume that percentage, thus guaranteeing the viability of the project from its inception.
“We are the public institution that has made the most municipal roofs available for this initiative because we firmly believe that the energy transition must be real and reach all areas of the municipality. In a territory as extensive as ours, betting on the largest number of roofs is betting on equal opportunities and sustainability,” the mayor stated.
Likewise, the Plenary approved the institutional declaration on the occasion of International Women's Day, March 8, reaffirming the firm commitment of the City Council with real and effective equality, the defense of women's rights and the promotion of public policies that continue to advance in equity.
With the agreements adopted this Wednesday, the governing group "consolidates a model based on economic stability, sustainability and social commitment, reinforcing the institutional leadership of the Teguise City Council in strategic areas for the present and future of the municipality".
