Nueva Canarias-Bloque Canarista (NC-bc) in Lanzarote held an emotional event this Tuesday in commemoration of the 61st anniversary of the National Canary Islands Flag, a symbol of identity, unity, and struggle of the Canarian people. The meeting took place at the party's island headquarters in the capital's neighborhood of Altavista, which from this Thursday on will be officially called Ateneo "October 22," in homage to the date on which the tricolor flag was raised for the first time in 1964.
During the event, which was attended by activists, supporters, and public representatives of NC-bc, Tanausú Figuera was also presented as the new Island Secretary of the Canarist Youth of Lanzarote and La Graciosa. Figuera will take on the challenge of promoting militant work among the youth of Lanzarote, strengthening the presence of Canarism in the new spaces for youth participation.
The new secretary expressed his desire for "a youth committed to their land, aware of their identity, and protagonists of the future of the Canary Islands," emphasizing "the importance of opening channels for dialogue, training, and social action that encourage the involvement of young people in public and political affairs, and active listening on issues that affect them, such as mental health, the environment, housing, or working conditions."
For his part, the island president of the Canarist formation and deputy, Yoné Caraballo, highlighted the double relevance of the act: the commemoration of the 61st anniversary of the Canarian National Flag, a symbol of dignity and sovereignty, and the inauguration of the "October 22" Athenaeum, which was created as a meeting place for reflection and debate open to the entire society of Lanzarote.
The national secretary of organization, Ayoze Corujo, pointed out "the importance that the Canarist Youth will have in the new organizational structure of NC-bc, with an autonomous structure from the party, but representing the values and principles of the Canarian nationalist left".
The event concluded with the reading of a manifesto in defense of self-government, social justice, and the sustainability of the Canary Islands, "reaffirming Nueva Canarias' commitment to the values of progress, equality, and defense of the territory."
