The members of Somos Lanzarote have decided this Wednesday by a large majority to bet on a pact with Nueva Canarias in view of the next local and regional elections. The votes have been cast throughout the day at the party headquarters and that has been the option that has obtained the greatest support, with 32 votes out of the 56 that have been cast.
As for the second most voted possibility, which was to go to the elections in a confluence with Podemos and Izquierda Unida, it has only received 19 votes. In addition, the members could also opt for two other alternatives: to go to the elections alone or in alliance with Alternativa Nacionalista Canaria (ANC). However, the first has received four votes and the second only one.
The decision of the members thwarts the progressive confluence that had been talked about for months and from which Somos Lanzarote will finally disassociate itself, which has mostly opted for an agreement with Nueva Canarias. It should be remembered that Alternativa Ciudadana had also withdrawn from that confluence table, in which the Podemos sector that prevailed in the primaries to the Cabildo focused a good part of its campaign.
"We have done what we could"
"Today I want to remember the more than 3,100 voters who poured their hopes into Somos Lanzarote in the elections to the Cabildo almost 4 years ago. And in all those who have felt represented by this project in this time. We have done, most of those who have been there, what we could. But illusion is like energy. It is neither created nor destroyed. This people will know where to deposit it", the councilor of Somos in the Cabildo, Tomás López, published on his Facebook wall, shortly after the results of the vote were known.
Although they have avoided stating it publicly, López advocated an alliance with Podemos while another of the main representatives of the party, the councilor of Arrecife Borja Rubio, was in favor of the alliance with NC, which is the one that has won the vote.
