The socialist senator for Lanzarote and La Graciosa and Fourth Clerk of the Senate, Manuel Fajardo, attended today the reception held at the Congress of Deputies on the occasion of the official visit to Spain of Pope Leo XIV.
The pontiff, before delivering a speech, considered historic as it was the first time a pope addressed Spanish parliamentarians, signed the book of honor with a message in which he expressed his wish that respect for the rights of all people always guide the legislative activity of the Chambers. During the institutional greeting, Fajardo conveyed to His Holiness his best wishes for success during his pontificate.
The plenary session took place in an atmosphere of cordiality and respect, "a positive example of democratic coexistence that could hopefully occur more frequently in the ordinary sessions of both Chambers." The day concluded with a prolonged applause from the deputies and senators, almost all of them standing.

Building the civilization of love
Taking advantage of the occasion, the senator presented him with an illustration created with AI inspired by the encyclical letter Magnifica Humanitas, dedicated to the protection of the human person in the age of artificial intelligence. The work takes as a reference the chapter building the civilization of love and represents the work of volunteers who receive and assist migrants arriving by boat on the island of Lanzarote, highlighting the solidarity commitment of Canarian society and the defense of human dignity in contexts of particular vulnerability.
Invitation to visit the non-capital islands
In the coming days, the senator will send an official letter to His Holiness inviting him to visit Lanzarote and La Graciosa, as well as all the non-capital islands of the Canary archipelago, so that he can learn firsthand about their social, cultural, and territorial reality, as well as the work carried out by entities and volunteers for the benefit of those most in need.
