The Socialist Group in the Cabildo of Lanzarote has denounced that the Minister of Social Welfare, Marciano Acuña, “is trying to buy time” and is delaying the delivery of the documentation requested by the socialist party regarding the nursing homes managed by Amavir in Tías and Haría.

The socialist spokesperson in the Cabildo, Ariagona González, has criticized that, despite a formal request registered on May 4, the Cabildo has responded by asking for more time to prepare the documentation. “We are not talking about minor information or accessory papers. We are talking about supervision minutes, reports that should be in the area's possession, and key documentation to understand what control has been exercised over nursing homes where serious deficiencies have been detected,” she pointed out.

González recalled that 76 days have already passed since the Socialist Group publicly denounced the situation of the nursing homes managed by Amavir, a period during which seven inspections have been carried out, without Marciano Acuña having announced or adopted any concrete measures to date.

“Seventy-six days later, with seven inspections on the table, the minister continues to not intervene, not provide the complete documentation, not assign responsibilities, and not explain what decisions he intends to make to guarantee the safety, care, and dignity of the elderly,” stated the socialist spokesperson.

The Socialist Group requested, specifically, a copy of the supervision minutes of the Amavir Tías Nursing Home from March 24, 2026; a copy of the supervision minutes of the Amavir Haría Nursing Home from February 26, 2026; a copy of all supervision minutes formalized by the Technical Unit for monitoring and execution of contracts, agreements, and other centers and services of the Network of Centers of the Cabildo of Lanzarote attached to the Area of Social Welfare and Inclusion, with the exception of those previously provided; as well as a copy of the documentation held by the area regarding the inspection report of the Government of the Canary Islands dated March 10, 2026.

For Ariagona González, it is "unacceptable" that the Minister of Social Welfare continues to offer no clear answers and that, instead of acting with transparency, he "chooses to extend deadlines and buy time." "Every day that passes without delivering the documentation increases the sense of opacity and confirms that the Cabildo does not want the whole truth about what happened in the residences managed by Amavir to be known," she added.

The socialist spokesperson insisted that the deficiencies reported in the elderly residences cannot be treated "as just another administrative procedure," but as a matter of maximum public responsibility.

"We are not talking about just any file. We are talking about the control that a public institution should exercise over an essential service for the elderly, many of them in situations of special vulnerability. If there are minutes, inspections, and reports, the public has the right to know what they say and what the Cabildo has done with that information," González stressed.

From the PSOE, they recall that the Cabildo of Lanzarote has the obligation to guarantee the quality of care, supervise compliance with contracts, and act forcefully in the face of any breach. "What Marciano Acuña cannot do is hide behind deadlines while the days pass and no decisions are made," said the spokesperson.

"The Socialist Group will not allow this matter to be diluted in excuses, extensions, and administrative maneuvers. We will continue to demand all documentation, all explanations, and all corresponding political responsibilities. Marciano Acuña can no longer look the other way," concluded Ariagona González.
