The Government Council has approved the final award of the project and work for the construction of the High Requirement Senior Residence and a Day Center in Lanzarote de Tahíche.
“This project, which will have a total investment of 15 million euros, marks a significant milestone in the development of the island's network of social and healthcare centers,” said the president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, highlighting the importance of this award: “The approval of this project represents a very important step in the construction of a high-requirement senior residence and day center.” “It was a desire we had since we took office and today we celebrate that we are taking another step in a long obstacle course,” adds the president.
The initial project faced several challenges, including an award that could not be executed and a contract that was not rescinded either. "We found ourselves with the need to start from scratch, cancel the previous project and put it out to tender again, which entails complications inherent to a work of this magnitude. Fortunately, after clearing up those inconveniences, today, with all the favorable reports, we have achieved the modification of the original project and the final award," added Betancort.
For his part, the Minister of Social Welfare, Marci Acuña, expressed his satisfaction with the progress of this long-awaited project. "This project is not only a response to the needs of our elderly population, but also a symbol of our commitment to the continuous improvement of Lanzarote's social and healthcare infrastructure. With this award, we are taking a decisive step towards the creation of a space that will significantly improve the quality of life of our seniors and their families," declared Acuña.
The new center will have modern facilities adapted to the specific needs of the elderly and their caregivers, and is expected to become a benchmark of excellence in social and healthcare on the island. With an execution period of 15 months from the signing of the re-planning act, this project represents a key investment in the future of Lanzarote.
The award has been granted to the company SATOCAN, S.A., which will be responsible for carrying out the construction of the center with a maximum price of 15,104,004.01 euros, plus 1,057,280.28 euros in respect of IGIC. The works are expected to begin shortly, with the intention of opening the center within the stipulated period.
This project is yet another example of the commitment of the Cabildo de Lanzarote to the creation of a network of social and healthcare centers that meets the growing needs of the island's population, and that is up to the standards of quality and care that citizens deserve.
