The Teguise City Council has announced that it is "about to start" the rehabilitation of the Santa Bárbara Castle, located on the Guanapay Mountain of Teguise, a project awarded to the company specialized in the restoration of artistic historical monuments, Sustratal S.L., for an amount of 761,031.71 euros.
Thus, given the "imminent" start of the restoration works, the fortress that houses the current Pirate Museum will be temporarily closed to the public, while the restoration work is carried out, which is why the perimeter fencing is being carried out "to avoid risks."

"For security reasons, the Castle will remain closed to ensure the optimal execution of the interventions, which will be carried out for approximately eight months and which will involve the recovery of one of the most significant historical elements of the Canary Islands, and which is part of the immense architectural heritage of Teguise", said the mayor, Oswaldo Betancort.
The mayor of Teguise has stressed "the importance of this investment and the responsibility of the public administration to maintain and preserve in good condition the hallmarks of a town with such a rich heritage."
