The Local Police of Arrecife continues with the task of clarifying new actions against municipal ordinances by uncivic citizens. Recently, agents of the Local Police were alerted by residents of the Los Alonso neighborhood where a person was found, next to a van, throwing bulky debris in an area near María Lasso Street, between the neighborhoods of Altavista and Los Alonso. This area of the city houses buildings, residences and premises for business activities, such as shops and workshops, among others.
The agents were able to verify that the van had been previously rented by the person, now denounced, to dispose of this waste that came from renovations in buildings. The rubble was dumped in a non-permitted place in the capital of Lanzarote, near a residential area.
The capital of Lanzarote has a Clean Point intended for the collection of this type of waste when it comes from individuals. The Clean Point is located near the municipal cemetery of Arrecife. The City Council has recently conditioned its accesses providing the road with new exterior lighting and asphalt pavement.
The Local Police of Arrecife has recently been equipped with new technological devices for the identification of vehicle license plates, in direct communication with the central base of the General Directorate of Traffic. With this tool, the agents who went to this place, were able to verify that this van belonged to a vehicle rental company, and the identity of the person who had rented it was found out. It turned out to be the offender and that, after the initiation of the record, it has been proposed for an economic sanction typified in the municipal ordinances. The Infractions Area of the Arrecife City Council, under the direction of Councilor Kevin Cortés, is closely monitoring repeat offenders.
Intensification of the services of the Arrecife Police to enforce municipal ordinances
The Local Police of Arrecife takes a further step in its objective to adapt to the new times. In recent months it has been equipped with new vehicles and technological equipment for security and provision of its police services to citizens.
The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, who appreciates the collaboration provided by citizens to identify this type of uncivic behavior, recalls that the Local Police, of which he is directly responsible, is carrying out permanent monitoring to identify offenders, who in some cases may commit crimes for dumping polluting materials.
The mayor has remarked that the Local Police has camouflaged vehicles that allow them to be in sensitive areas of the city, without being identified by citizens, by going, in addition, with non-uniformed clothing.
The mayor is making a call to citizens to alert the Local Police when they see people throwing waste in non-permitted places, and also requests that photographs or videos with those responsible and offenders be provided. With this evidence, agents are allowed to investigate, identify the perpetrators, and carry out the sanctioning reports.
