The president of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez (PSOE), will enjoy his holidays this summer on the island of Lanzarote. As is customary for the highest national representative since he came to power in 2019, the socialist will travel to the island of volcanoes to disconnect for several weeks.
These holidays on the island will take place amidst the political and judicial current events surrounding the PSOE and former members of the Spanish Executive. These holidays will be different, as they occur after last June, Judge Juan Carlos Peinado revoked the passport of the president's wife, Begoña Gómez, after sending her to trial accused of four crimes. Since then, the first lady has had to ask the court for permission to leave Spain, one for her daughter's graduation in the United Kingdom, which was accepted, and another for the NATO summit in Turkey, which was rejected.
Although the exact dates of the trip are not yet known. Sources consulted by La Voz reveal that the Spanish president will be on the island from the end of July until the third week of August. The previous year, his holidays on the island extended from August 2 to the 25th of the same month.
Patrimonio Nacional has already awarded the new security contract for the residence of La Mareta in Costa Teguise through an urgent procedure. The contract, worth 266,000 euros, has been awarded to the Madrid-based company Clece Seguridad S.A. This tender was issued along with other properties owned by Patrimonio Nacional around the country.
La Mareta in Costa Teguise was built at the request of King Hussein I of Jordan in the late 1970s. The design is by César Manrique and architect Fernando Higueras. In the late 1980s, Hussein gifted the house to Juan Carlos I, the current king emeritus of Spain, who in turn ceded it to Patrimonio Nacional.
