The candidate of the Canarian Coalition (CC) for the Presidency of the Cabildo, Pedro San Ginés, presented this Wednesday the project "Lanzarote Island Cycling Route", which he will support if he returns to preside over the first Island Corporation.

At the event, San Ginés was accompanied by Airam Fernández Pérez, promoter of the initiative for four years, who explained the technical details of the sports tourism project. Representatives of the tourism sector, sports associations, cycling and mountain bike clubs, sports fans and citizens in general participated in the presentation, gathering "about 200 people" in the auditorium of the Arrecife Gran Hotel.

The project, according to CC, "is a clear commitment to boost and promote the island's economy, through the generation of new projects that, while benefiting and improving the leisure and free time opportunities of the people of Lanzarote, will create positive synergies for the economy and the tourism sector, further specializing the 'Lanzarote deportivo' product, which is integrated into the denomination "European Sport Destination".

The cycling route proposed by the Canarian Coalition candidate for the Cabildo de Lanzarote will have 180 kilometers of route with several routes and is planned in its entirety by public domain roads.

This [project->http://pedrosangines.files.wordpress.com/2011/05/proyecto-vc3ada-ciclista-isla-de-lanzarote.pdf], unlike others, San Ginés has detailed, "does not entail expropriation procedures or procedures for the use of private land, as other less far-reaching proposals presented on the island intended".

Objectives

As explained during the presentation, the Canarian Coalition project "adapts to the territorial regulations (PIOT)", and its objectives include generating new business activities that boost the island's economy; responding to a potential and growing sports tourism; increasing the average tourist spending; offering a mobility product; recycling roads in poor condition or disuse; improving access to areas of the island with difficulties; integrating globally into the wave of sustainable actions with the environment; boosting the economy associated with the Tourist Centers; and modifying the economic tourism model centralized in the tourist centers, emphasizing strengthening the economy of those places with untapped potential today, among others.

"If Lanzarote, an already established destination, could add to its natural charms, a cycling route of 180 kilometers, of which 112 are for the exclusive use of cyclists, it would be unparalleled worldwide," San Ginés stressed.

Similarly, the nationalist candidate to hold the Presidency of the Cabildo de Lanzarote assured that if this project were consolidated "there would not be a place in the world with a similar infrastructure, and the wealth that it could represent for the island is now incalculable, but it can be assured that if the cycling route is a

reality, Lanzarote would become the number one sports destination for the millions of amateur and professional cyclists in the world".

After the meeting, Pedro San Ginés himself, accompanied by the candidate for Mayor of Arrecife, Manuel Fajardo Feo, the president of the Local Committee of Arrecife and number 2 on the electoral list to the Parliament of the Canary Islands, David de la Hoz, and the Minister of Finance of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Luis Arráez; as well as several members of the electoral lists of CC to the Parliament and the City Council of Arrecife, respectively; held a meeting in the same facilities with representatives of the different sports associations of Lanzarote, to whom they announced the measures that CC plans to undertake in this area during the next legislature.
