The insular secretary of Coalición Canaria in Lanzarote, Pedro San Ginés, has responded to the accusations made by the organization secretary of the island's PSOE, José Juan Cruz Saavedra, who accused Oswaldo Betancort (CC) of carrying out "a judicial hunt" against the socialist deputy and Lanzarote councilor Dolores Corujo, his predecessor in the first insular institution.
San Ginés has taken the opportunity to return the accusation to the PSOE and has pointed to Dolores Corujo for carrying out a supposed "judicial war" to "falsely incriminate him" in two already closed cases (one dismissed and another with an acquittal) after Coalición Canaria granted him immunity by appointing him as a senator.
At the beginning of the week, the Coalición Canaria Group in the Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa approved in the Governing Council to delegate to President Oswaldo Betancort the decision to take "appropriate legal actions" against the former socialist president. This route opens the door to filing a lawsuit or a complaint against her in the Supreme Court, due to her privileged status as a deputy in the Spanish Parliament.
For the moment, the complaint filed by the insular director of Presidency of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, David Monte, politically linked to CC, against Dolores Corujo in the Prosecutor's Office, is in the hands of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office of the Supreme Court, as the socialist has been a deputy in Congress since 2023.
The investigation is still in a pre-procedural stage, so the Cabildo of Lanzarote cannot become a party to the proceedings because there is no judicial case to date. Dolores Corujo acquired the status of "suspect" in this investigation by the Prosecutor's Office, following the complaint filed by David Monte before the Public Ministry in Arrecife, in relation to the allowances collected by councilor Juan Manuel Sosa during his term.
San Ginés has insisted that the decision "has as its main objective to defend the public coffers of the Cabildo, in other words, the money of all the people of Lanzarote and La Graciosa". Meanwhile, he has accused Corujo of "buying the will of a turncoat with public funds to shield herself in the Presidency". Juan Manuel Sosa's support for Corujo's government distanced San Ginés from the Presidency of the Cabildo.
The PP and Armando Santana speak of "judicial war"
The decision to open the door for the Cabildo of Lanzarote to file a lawsuit against Corujo in the High Court was made with the abstention of the Popular Party and the councilor from the Mixed Group who is part of the Government, Armando Santana. "We are staying absolutely out of these judicial wars that both parties are having," defended sources from the Popular Party of Lanzarote in a conversation with La Voz.
Meanwhile, Santana revealed on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero that his government partners had not informed him about the object of the motion until fifteen hours earlier and that if he had known, his vote "would have been different." Furthermore, he denounced the drift of "political life," which is being taken "to extremes that I never thought could happen in 2026."
"The hatred that is being transmitted through political organizations is something that I have been seeing since I rejoined the political world in Lanzarote," indicated the councilor.
"I do not like that people are continuously being threatened with going to the Prosecutor's Office or that indications of corruption that a person may have are being pointed out because later that can come to nothing and then one is stained for life," Santana concluded.
During his appearance on Buenos días, Lanzarote, Armando Santana recalled that councilor Juan Manuel Sosa, who ran on the list with Nueva Canarias in the 2014 elections, a party to which Santana himself belonged, later supported a government presided over by San Ginés, despite the party's refusal. "He told me that from that moment on he was going to do whatever he wanted," Santana added.
