The San Bartolomé City Council will hold next Thursday, May 28, at 7:00 PM, the screening of the feature film La Lucha, directed by the Canarian filmmaker José Alayón, at the San Bartolomé Municipal Theater. The session will also include a talk open to the public and will have free admission until full capacity.

The film, shot in Fuerteventura in super 16 mm format and starring real wrestlers, addresses through Canarian wrestling the broken relationship between a veteran of the ring and his daughter, offering an intimate look at the identity, emotions, and cultural roots of the archipelago. The feature film was recently recognized with the Special Jury Prize at BAFICI 2026.

The mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, highlighted that “this screening represents an opportunity to bring to the citizens a cinematographic work of great sensitivity that values our traditions and our identity from an artistic and emotional perspective”.

He also pointed out that “San Bartolomé continues to bet on a diverse and quality cultural program, capable of generating spaces for meeting and reflection around elements as deeply rooted in the Canary Islands as Canarian wrestling”.

For his part, the councilor for Sports, Alexis Hernández, emphasized that “Canarian wrestling is part of our history and our way of understanding sport, not only as competition, but also as a cultural and social value that unites generations”.

Hernández added that “films like La Lucha allow us to bring this traditional sport closer to new audiences and show the human and emotional dimension that exists behind the ring”.

The San Bartolomé City Council invites all citizens to enjoy this cultural and cinematographic proposal that unites sport, memory, and Canarian identity in a unique shared experience.
