The San Bartolomé City Council presented this Wednesday, June 11, the official program for the International LGTBI Pride Day, which will be held from June 16 to 27 with a series of cultural, educational and vindictive activities aimed at making diversity visible and promoting equality.

The mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, stated that this year's program “not only celebrates Pride, but also generates spaces for reflection and learning from the local level. It is a firm commitment of this City Council to continue working for a more just and inclusive society, where all people can live with dignity and freedom.”

For her part, the Councilor for Equality, Mónica de León, stressed that “this edition has a marked didactic and enriching character, as we have opted for activities that connect with our youth, that listen to the voices of the group and that also pay tribute to those who paved the way, such as Nena Santana.”

The program will begin next Monday, June 16, at 12:00 noon in the Municipal Theater of San Bartolomé with the screening of the short film Isleteñas, directed by Patricia Rivero. After the screening, a colloquium will be held with the participation of the protagonists of the short film Lourdes Coello, Margaret García and Marián Pérez, as well as Karolina Déniz and representatives of the Association of Families of Trans Children and Youth Chrysallis. The activity will be moderated by the director herself and aimed at students from the I.E.S. of San Bartolomé and Playa Honda.

On Thursday, June 26, at 6:00 p.m., the Playa Honda Civic Center will host the talk Twenty years of equal marriage, which will be moderated by journalist and activist Paco Tomás, creator of the program La Transversal (RNE) and host of the Wisteria Lane space on LGTBI+ culture and activism on Radio 5, which will also feature the presence of several guests related to the subject.

The agenda of activities will culminate on Friday, June 27, at 12:00 noon in Plaza León y Castillo, in front of the San Bartolomé City Hall, with a performance and colloquium entitled De una marika, by Vivi Déniz, followed by the reading of the Pride manifesto by Celeste González and the traditional raising of the LGTBI+ flag, which this year will be held in memory of Nena Santana.

From the City Council, we invite citizens to join these days, conceived as a space for meeting, celebration and vindication of human rights and diversity.
