The San Bartolomé City Council is taking a new step in the improvement and development of Playa Honda, with the start of urbanization works in a key area of its industrial and commercial area. This project, whose promoters are the owners of the land, will improve the environment and generate new employment and growth opportunities for the municipality.
The works cover an area of 45,000 square meters in the so-called Action Unit 10 of Playa Honda. During the next nine months, the necessary work will be carried out to provide the area with modern and safe infrastructure, with an investment exceeding 1,500,000 euros, financed by the owners of the land.
This urbanization will bring important advantages for the municipality such as new land for municipal projects. Thus, as part of the process, the City Council will receive a plot of 3,000 m² of industrial land, which can be used for initiatives that benefit the community.
In addition, this action generates new opportunities for the installation of companies and businesses, which will contribute to job creation and economic growth, boosting the local economy.
With respect to the organization and modernization of the space, the urbanization will improve the planning of the area, with adequate infrastructure and services that favor the development of commercial and industrial activity in Playa Honda.
Joint work
The mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, has highlighted the importance of this action. “This project reflects our commitment to economic development and the improvement of the municipality. The urbanization of this area will not only attract new business opportunities, but will also boost the prosperity of San Bartolomé as a whole, which is our ultimate goal.”
Words that are endorsed by the Councilor for Urban Planning, Marlene Romero, explaining that this project “has been possible thanks to the joint effort of the City Council and the Compensation Board, who have worked hand in hand to unlock the difficulties that had delayed the start of the works.”
In 2020, the plenary session of the San Bartolomé City Council approved a change in the way the urbanization was carried out, moving from a public to a private system, with the commitment of all parties to promote the development of this area.
In 2022, the reparcelling and urbanization projects were approved, but it was not until November 2024 when a conflict with the electricity company Endesa could be resolved, related to access to the energy distribution network. Thanks to the intervention of the City Council and the Compensation Board, the National Commission of Markets and Competition (CNMC) resolved the situation in favor of the project, allowing its definitive start.
With the start of these works, "San Bartolomé continues to advance towards a balanced and sustainable development model, which favors the creation of employment and new opportunities, where collaboration between institutions and citizens is key to the growth of the municipality."
