The San Bartolomé City Council has proceeded to renovate 600 solid waste containers in the municipality in the last two months.
For this, it has allocated a total of 153,738 euros with the purpose of replacing existing devices that are broken, old, damaged by misuse, graffiti or with defective mechanisms with more efficient ones for the collection and deposit of garbage, which include in their system a pedal to make it easier for people who use them to deposit the garbage generated.
The mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, explains that "periodically replacing these elements not only improves the image of the municipality but also results in the public health of residents and workers, minimizing the risk of diseases and injuries when handling them for collection."
"This is a great renovation with which the City Council, from the Department of Public Services, seeks to facilitate the deposit of bags in containers destined for organic waste," explains the councilor responsible for this department, Raúl de León.
The City Council also requests the collaboration of the population to maintain these resources in good condition, appealing to individual and collective responsibility for their care, both in the treatment of the container itself and when correctly depositing the waste generated on a daily basis in them.
"This measure is a far-reaching action in San Bartolomé that adds to other initiatives launched to improve the quality of life of residents, such as the investment of more than 5 million euros to reinforce street cleaning and the maintenance of public spaces in the municipality," they declare from the City Council.
The San Bartolomé government team "carries out an important task to guarantee a public and free service to citizens within the framework of its municipal powers, as is the case of the replacement of these containers, since the collection service is carried out by the island administration, to whom the need to improve the system has been transferred on several occasions."
