The San Bartolomé City Council presented this Tuesday, September 17, the 1st Senior Citizen Conference 'I take care of you, I take care of myself', a pioneering initiative whose main objective is to improve the well-being of caregivers of the elderly in the municipality and, therefore, the quality of the services offered.

The presentation was held in the courtyard of the Municipal Theater and was attended by the mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez; the councilor for the Elderly, Carmen Medina; the physiotherapists of the Institute of Advanced Physiotherapy of Lanzarote, Silvia Lorenzo, Claudia Oses and Mónica Vargas, and the physiotherapist of Fisiosan Jose Guillén Elvira. During the event, an emotional short film was also unveiled to raise awareness and highlight the importance of these Conferences.

The mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, stressed that "the well-being of our elders depends not only on the resources we provide them, but also on those who dedicate their time, knowledge and humanity to them: the caregivers", and pointed out that "these conferences are for them, because we understand that in order to care well, it is essential to be well".

"We have been working for years to become a benchmark in the care and attention of our elders, with projects such as the Soledad Cero Service and the Municipal Plan against Unwanted Loneliness, which have been key to combating isolation and ensuring that no one feels alone. These initiatives have helped us to further understand the importance of reinforcing not only assistance services, but also the figure of the caregiver," the mayor stressed.

Similarly, the Councilor for the Elderly Area, Carmen Medina, explained that the conferences will be held in Playa Honda and San Bartolomé, from September 30 to October 4, and will feature more than a dozen events.

These will mainly consist of talks and relaxing sessions, where participants will be able to learn more about time management and stress management, about how to take care of oneself, understand more about dementia, about the care and feeding of the elderly, about support for dependent elderly people or perform physical activity such as yoga, postural hygiene or walks.

The mayor and the councilor took advantage of their speeches to thank the professionals who make this project possible, the workers of the Elderly Area of the City Council, who every day put their effort and dedication to the service of our community, and also to the collaborating companies and associations that have embraced these objectives and have joined in this important work and to invite the population to participate in an open, inclusive project that deserves the support of all.

The full program can be found on the website and on the official social networks of the City Council. Registration can be made from September 23, by contacting 608195669, from 09:00 to 12:00 hours.
