The San Bartolomé City Council presents the new San Bartolomé Local Trails Network, an initiative that will offer, between July and December 2026, seven free guided routes to showcase the natural, historical, cultural, and ethnographic heritage of the municipality.
The proposal seeks to promote a model of sustainable tourism, promote healthy lifestyle habits, and bring citizens and visitors alike closer to knowledge and experiences of the most representative spaces of its territory.
The mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, highlighted that this new program "is an opportunity to continue valuing the richness of our municipality from a perspective that is respectful of the environment and linked to our identity." In this regard, he stressed that "we want residents and visitors to discover San Bartolomé by walking through its landscapes, learning about its history, and understanding the enormous natural and cultural heritage we preserve. It is a way to enjoy the municipality while promoting responsible and sustainable tourism."
For his part, the Councilor for Tourism, Mamadou Yero Sy Cisse, explained that "each of the itineraries has been designed to offer a different experience, combining nature, heritage, archaeology, agriculture, history, and tradition." He also added that "we have prepared a varied and accessible program for different participant profiles, including a route specially designed for families to enjoy, with the aim of bringing our heritage closer to all ages in a participatory and enjoyable way."
Program and Routes
The program will begin next Sunday, July 19, with the route "Hiking between Chimidas and Tajaste," a low-to-medium difficulty route that will allow participants to discover the volcanic panoramas of Caldera Honda and Caldera Llana, as well as old rural paths and traditional agricultural landscapes.
The calendar will continue with the Poetic Route through San Bartolomé (August 16), El Cabezo (September 20), a route through traditional vineyards; Discover San Bartolomé as a Family (October 4); El Jable (October 18), focused on the memory and environment of Zonzamas; Las Maretas de Guatisea (November 15), dedicated to the history of water on the island; and will conclude with the Montaña Blanca route (December 13), which will cover one of the most unique archaeological and volcanic landscapes in the municipality.
The seven routes will be held on Sunday, with an approximate duration of three hours and different levels of difficulty. Most of the routes will start at 9:00 AM, while the family route will start at 10:00 AM.
All activities are completely free, although they have limited places, so it will be essential to register in advance via WhatsApp at 646 032 160, where information about each of the itineraries will also be provided.
