The San Bartolomé City Council demands that the Canary Islands Government open the underpass of Playa Honda, an action that has been underway for more than a year and whose objective is to decongest traffic in one of the busiest areas of the island of Lanzarote and connect the commercial and residential area in the town.
The mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, stated that, after the passage of months and with the works practically completed, “we demand that the regional Executive put into operation this road of vital importance for the transit of vehicles and pedestrians in our municipality.”
“From the City Council, we appreciate the communication, predisposition and understanding that there has always been with the technical part of the Canary Islands Government and with its general director, however, when asked when the underpass will be opened, no response has been given,” accused the mayor.
“We understand this action as essential for the connectivity of Playa Honda, San Bartolomé and, in general, of Lanzarote, in addition to an infrastructure that citizens have been waiting for for more than a year, so it is our duty to ask for the opening of the same for the residents,” the mayor stated.
In 2022, the bidding file was signed for the execution of this work by the then Minister of Public Works, Transportation and Housing of the Canary Islands Government, Sebastián Franquis. The project contemplated the construction of an underpass under the LZ-2 with the aim of improving connectivity between Playa Honda and the industrial and commercial area located on the other side of the highway.
In this sense, Isidro Pérez recalled that it was signed and tendered in the previous term and pointed out that “the apathy of the current Canary Islands Government is causing an inadmissible delay in a work that began to take shape three years ago and that is absolutely necessary for the population.”
