San Bartolomé conditions rural roads to improve access to agricultural farms

The San Bartolomé City Council is working on the conditioning and improvement of several rural roads in the municipality with the aim of facilitating access to agricultural holdings and improving the mobility conditions of farmers, ranchers, and livestock farmers who use these roads daily to carry out their activity.

This first action focuses especially on those roads that showed a greater degree of deterioration, both due to the effects of the recent rains and the continuous use of these roads, with the purpose of recovering adequate conditions of safety, accessibility, and trafficability.

The works are financed by the Cabildo de Lanzarote, through a line of subsidies for the improvement of rural infrastructures, and include different conditioning actions depending on the needs of each section. Among them are profiling the roads, adding gravel and dust in the areas that require it, as well as leveling and improving the surface of the rolling area.

The action will allow for progressive intervention in different points of the rural road network of the municipality, including La Majorera, La Quinta, Montaña Blanca, La Calera, El Barranco, El Sobaco, the Vega de Yágamo, the Camino de San Bartolomé, Los Invernaderos, and the Vega de Machín.

The mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, highlighted that “the maintenance of rural roads is fundamental to support our agricultural sector and facilitate access to the farms of many residents. These are roads that are used daily and fulfill an essential function for those who work in the fields of our municipality”.

Pérez pointed out that “this first action allows us to respond to the most urgent needs, especially after the recent rains, but our intention is to continue moving forward. We want to maintain a continuous plan that allows us to act progressively on the rural road network and improve access conditions to the holdings”.

Likewise, the mayor assures that “from the City Council we will continue working to obtain resources and respond to the needs of the primary sector and the people who carry out their activity in our municipality”.

For his part, the councilor for Agriculture, Alexis Hernández, explained that “we have carried out an assessment of the roads that presented the greatest need for intervention and we have prioritized those that are regularly used by farmers and ranchers to access their farms and operations”.

The councilor pointed out that “the objective is not only to repair any damage that may have occurred, but to carry out maintenance that allows these roads to be kept in better condition and to facilitate the daily work of our primary sector”.

Hernández also highlighted that the work will be carried out progressively and that “this action constitutes a first step within an improvement plan that will continue in the coming months. We will continue to address the needs that are detected and the demands made by farmers and ranchers to intervene in other roads in the municipality”.

A network of roads linked to the primary sector

Rural roads play a fundamental role in the agricultural and livestock activity of San Bartolomé, as they connect the different operations with the main centers and communication routes of the municipality. Their adequate maintenance contributes to improving the conditions in which daily work is carried out on the farms and facilitates the transit of vehicles and agricultural machinery.

In this regard, the City Council will continue to work on the conservation and improvement of these infrastructures, giving priority to those points that show greater deterioration and ensuring that the actions are adapted to the specific characteristics and needs of each road.

With this action, the San Bartolomé City Council reaffirms its commitment to the primary sector and to the conservation of rural infrastructures, promoting measures aimed at improving access to operations, fostering the development of agricultural and livestock activity, and contributing to the maintenance and care of the municipal territory.
