The San Bartolomé City Council joins once again the commemoration of International Women's Day, reaffirming its "commitment to equality and the fight against gender inequalities."

In the prior celebration of this event that is commemorated annually on March 8, the government team did not want to miss the opportunity to publicly demonstrate "its commitment to real equality free of sexist biases with the reading of a collective manifesto."

The mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, highlighted the role of leading women in different fields and how they have marked a path that must be continued. "As a public administration, we must raise awareness about the need to continue advancing to break the glass ceilings and build a fairer and more egalitarian future. This is a path of no return and it must be continued by those who started it and now must enjoy it as a fundamental right."

In this sense, the day included the participation of various groups, including students and teachers from CEIP Ajei with a special performance prepared for the occasion and the elderly and workers from the San Bartolomé Family Respite Center, as well as the Social and Cultural Association for Women 'Mararía'.

The Councilor for Equality and Youth, Mónica de León, has highlighted "that there are still pending challenges in terms of equality and that, from the government team and the area for which she works, she seeks to empower women so that they have tools to be autonomous, independent and free, and that is why it is so important to raise the voice for those who cannot or have not been allowed to express themselves or demonstrate."

The San Bartolomé City Council emphasizes that, "although there is still a way to go, it cannot be done alone, hence the importance of all associations, groups and administrations taking firm and united steps to eradicate gender inequalities, especially from childhood, schools and the family, the main nuclei around which childhood revolves."

It will not be the only action that has been prepared by the Corporation, as on Friday, March 14, a march will be organized with the students of CEIP Playa Honda, which will depart from the school at 11:00 a.m., to promote gender equality. In addition, different emblematic buildings and representative points of the municipality will be illuminated with the corporate color representative of this 8M, Women's Day.
