Coalición Canaria San Bartolomé has expressed in a press release its "deep concern and unease" over the absence of the City Council —governed by the PSOE— at the institutional event held this Wednesday in the Plenary Hall of the Cabildo of Lanzarote to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

During this call, the first Protocol of Institutional Commitment for an Accessible and Inclusive Lanzarote and La Graciosa was signed, a historic document that brought together the Cabildo, the island's town councils, and numerous Third Sector groups.

This protocol defines the common framework for advancing universal accessibility, equal opportunities, institutional coordination, and the improvement of island social policies.

The local secretary of Coalición Canaria in San Bartolomé, Corín Machín, who "deeply regrets" the absence of the City Council, points out that "it is incomprehensible that an event that marks a before and after in the defense of the rights of people with disabilities did not have the representation of the San Bartolomé City Council. Not being there today is turning our backs on our families, our associations, and the values that should guide any responsible public administration".

Machín emphasizes that "the protocol, which includes measures such as the creation of an Insular Technical Committee, the development of municipal accessibility plans, and the integration of universal design criteria in urban, educational, social, and cultural projects, requires real involvement from all institutions".“San Bartolomé must be present in these spaces, contributing, defending, and building solutions. The absence of the municipal government conveys a lack of interest that we cannot afford,” he emphasizesFrom Coalición Canaria San Bartolomé, they insist that this absence "takes us away from the real needs of the municipality and from an island project that demands unity and commitment."

The nationalist organization urges the governing PSOE group to "publicly explain the reasons for their absence and to guarantee, from today, their active participation in all island coordination structures aimed at improving the lives of people with disabilities".

"The least our neighbors deserve is responsibility, presence, and work," Machín concludes
