The San Bartolomé City Council has awarded ILUNION Lavanderías de Canarias S.A.U. municipal plots 2, 3, 4, 5, and 11 located in the Playa Honda Industrial Zone for the development of an industrial project that will involve an investment of 10 million euros and the creation of 100 jobs, of which 75% will be for people with disabilities.
The award follows the completion of the public tender procedure initiated by the City Council for the joint sale of these five plots, which cover nearly 5,000 square meters and are located in a strategic area of the Playa Honda Industrial Zone.
The mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, highlighted that this operation represents "a firm commitment to a model of economic development that combines investment, quality job creation, and social inclusion."
"We are talking about a transformative project for our municipality and for the entire island. It not only represents a very significant private investment but also generates real employment opportunities for groups that find it more difficult to access the labor market. This is the type of initiative we want to attract to San Bartolomé: companies committed to employment, sustainability, and the economic development of Lanzarote," said the mayor.
Pérez also emphasized that the location of this new industry in the Playa Honda Industrial Zone will contribute to strengthening the local productive fabric and consolidating the municipality's strategic role as the island's economic engine.
For her part, the Councilor for Urban Planning, Marlene Romero, valued the work carried out by the City Council to make industrial land available for projects capable of generating social and economic returns for the citizens.
"We have worked to ensure that these municipal plots become an opportunity for growth for San Bartolomé. The award responds to a vision of urban planning that seeks to take advantage of available land to attract productive investments, generate economic activity, and create stable, quality employment," stated Romero.
The councilor recalled that the project will be developed on a combined area of nearly 5,000 square meters, a size that allows for the implementation of a modern industrial infrastructure adapted to the current needs of the island's productive sectors.
The project presented by ILUNION contemplates the construction of an industrial laundry plant with a processing capacity of up to 30,000 kilos daily, mainly aimed at covering the needs of the hotel, socio-health, and industrial sectors of Lanzarote. The initiative foresees an investment of 4 million euros in construction, 3.5 million in facilities, and 2.5 million in specialized machinery.
The offer presented by ILUNION obtained the maximum score in the award procedure, reaching the 100 points foreseen in the evaluation criteria, which included aspects such as the committed investment, job creation, the percentage of hiring people with disabilities, and the deadlines for the start-up of the activity.
With this award, the San Bartolomé City Council advances in its objective of promoting industrial projects that contribute to diversifying the local economy, strengthening the business fabric, and generating new employment opportunities for the population of the municipality and Lanzarote.
