Teguise has started the resurfacing works in several streets of the Historic Site of La Villa, an action highly anticipated by the citizens that seeks to improve road safety, accessibility and the urban image of one of the most representative spaces of the municipality.

With an investment of more than 480,000 euros, financed between the City Council and the Cabildo of Lanzarote through the Municipal Cooperation Plan 2023, the works not only contemplate the renovation of the pavement, but also the improvement of road signage.

The streets included in this phase are: Argote de Molina, Batacazo, Carnicería, Coronel Carrasco, Garajonay, Guadalupe, Guarapo, Guayadeque, Herrera y Rojas, Juan de Bethencourt, Norte, Olmo, Restinga, Santo Domingo, as well as the parking lot of La Mareta, next to the CEIP Alfonso Spínola.

The mayoress of Teguise, Olivia Duque, visited the beginning of the works together with the councilor of Works, Eugenio Robayna, and the councilor of Public Works of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Jacobo Medina, highlighting the importance of this intervention to preserve and improve the urban environment of La Villa.

“Seeing the beginning of these works is a great satisfaction because they respond to a historical neighborhood demand. We know that any intervention of this type entails inconveniences, so we appreciate the patience and collaboration of all the neighbors. The important thing is that this improvement will directly affect the daily life of those who live, work or visit La Villa,” said the mayoress.

The councilor of Works, Eugenio Robayna, pointed out that “the intervention is being developed with rigorous technical criteria and with sensitivity towards the historical environment. We are working to ensure that the inconveniences are minimal, but above all so that the result lives up to what this enclave deserves, which is so important for Teguise.”

In addition, it was announced that the Cabildo of Lanzarote has already initiated the file for the next phase of bidding for José Betancort street, which will include the renovation of cobblestones, the adaptation of sidewalks and semi-pedestrianization, thus reinforcing the commitment to the continuous improvement of the historic center.

The City Council has published a map with the affected sections and will continue to inform through its official channels of the development of the works.
