El Reducto beach has once again flown the Blue Flag, an international award that recognizes the environmental quality and excellence of the services it offers. The raising ceremony was attended by the mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, and the councilor for Beaches, Davinia Déniz, who were accompanied by the government councilors, Óscar López; Eli Merino and Kevin Cortés.
El Reducto is one of only two beaches in Lanzarote to have obtained this recognition in 2025, and the only urban beach in the Canary Islands that combines the Blue Flag distinction with a pedestrian promenade that is committed to landscape integration, sustainability and universal accessibility.
During the event, the mayor highlighted that "revalidating the Blue Flag is not only a source of pride for Arrecife, but also a sign of the constant work we have been doing to improve our infrastructure, beach services and the environmental commitment of this city. El Reducto is today an urban benchmark in sustainability, accessibility and quality of services."
For her part, the Councilor for Beaches, Davinia Déniz, underlined the progress made during the last year: "We have improved the public bathrooms with facilities adapted for people with ostomies, we have installed lockers with solar energy, reinforced cleaning, and launched an emergency point operating 24 hours a day, among other actions that have been key to renewing this recognition."
The Blue Flag distinction, awarded by the European Foundation for Environmental Education, rewards beaches that meet demanding standards of water quality, safety, environmental management, services, accessibility and environmental education.
