El PSOE de Lanzarote has denounced new incidents of extreme gravity in Amavir. According to the information known by the Socialist Group within the framework of the monitoring it has been carrying out on this resource, some residents with needs not compatible with the geriatric profile were leaving the center, were returning with symptoms of having consumed and, on occasion, came to introduce substances and even bladed weapons into the facilities.
These facts are added to the complaint already publicly formulated by the PSOE of Lanzarote, which warned that the Cabildo knew about the coexistence of elderly people with residents who presented addictions and mental health problems without the corresponding specialized monitoring. For the spokesperson of the Socialist Group in the Cabildo, Ariagona González, the information that continues to emerge confirms the seriousness of what happened in this socio-health resource and the lack of response from the island government group.
“We are talking about events of enormous gravity that have ended up compromising the security, tranquility, and integrity of the residents. It is intolerable that our elders have been put in such a situation,” Ariagona González has pointed out.
The socialist spokesperson has warned that these facts evidence “a very serious breakdown in control, in supervision and in the response capacity within the resource”, at the same time that they aggravate the political responsibility of those who had the obligation to monitor, inspect and act with diligence before any circumstance incompatible with the nature of the center.
“Oswaldo Betancort and Marciano Acuña cannot continue hiding. Someone has to explain why a socio-health resource has been allowed to reach an absolutely inadmissible level of deterioration and lack of control,” stated Ariagona González.
González has insisted that families deserve clear answers regarding a situation that should never have occurred in a center intended for the care of elderly people.
“Families deserve to know the truth. They deserve to know how it was possible that such a scenario came to be tolerated in a nursing home and they deserve, above all, the guarantee that it will not happen again. The priority must be to protect our elderly, not to cover up political responsibilities or look the other way,” concluded Ariagona González.
