The insular secretary of Health of the PSOE of Lanzarote, Sabina Vizcaíno, describes as a "strong-arm tactic" that the Government of the Canary Islands postpones the public presentation of the Master Plan for Health Infrastructure while health officials attend the headquarters of Coalición Canaria to explain the document to their militants, sympathizers, and public officials.

"For the citizens, silence; for the CC militants, privileged information. It is a strong-arm tactic and a lack of respect for an island that has been waiting for months for answers about its healthcare. Institutions are not the property of Coalición Canaria," denounces Vizcaíno.

The meeting was held on October 14 in Arrecife and was attended by the insular secretary of CC, Pedro San Ginés, the director of the Health Area of Lanzarote, Erasmo García, and the manager of Health Services, Pablo Eguía.

"Their obligation is to be accountable to the citizens, not to give explanations first at their party headquarters. Why can a CC affiliate know what continues to be denied to the rest of the population?" questions the socialist official.

Vizcaíno also emphasizes that the Government of the Canary Islands submitted the Plan to the Canary Health Service for its supervision on October 15, one day after that meeting. "They must clarify what document they explained, what state it was in, and who decided that CC militants would have access before the citizens."

The Insular Hospital cannot wait any longer

The insular secretary of Health considers this action especially serious as the future of the Insular Hospital remains unclear, with the Government of the Canary Islands and CC deferring answers to the presentation of the Master Plan.

"Thousands of people took to the streets to defend the Insular Hospital. They did not do so for its future to be explained behind closed doors at a party headquarters. They demanded guarantees about its continuity, its reform, and its public geriatric care model. And they are still waiting," she points out.

Vizcaíno denounces that, while Lanzarote's health needs accumulate, CC prioritizes its party agenda. "Waiting lists, pending health centers, and care for our elderly cannot be subordinated to the political convenience of Coalición Canaria. If the Plan is important enough to explain to its militants, it is also important to present it publicly to all citizens."

For this reason, the socialist representative demands that the Government of the Canary Islands make the Plan public, detail the actions for Lanzarote and La Graciosa, and specify their deadlines and funding, with express guarantees regarding the reform and the continuity of the services of the Insular Hospital.
