The PSOE of Lanzarote denounces that Oswaldo Betancort guarantees the continuity of Ángel Vázquez as a released official in the Cabildo after his dismissal from the leadership of the Centers of Art, Culture and Tourism. The socialists consider that keeping him in the island government and ensuring him remuneration shows that the president has opted to protect his government partner rather than demand political responsibilities from him.

The socialist spokesperson, Ariagona González, emphasizes that "Vázquez's release is linked to his status as a member of the Governing Council and secretary counselor of that body, a responsibility that directly points to the president of the Cabildo".

“Betancort cannot hide behind the Popular Party again. The responsibility for keeping Ángel Vázquez in the Governing Council and sustaining his release is directly his. It is the president who must explain why a person who has had to leave the Tourist Centers continues to have his trust and a public salary,” states González.

The PSOE recalls that the crisis was triggered after it became known that Vázquez had signed the final resolution of the procedure in which his son obtained a permanent position in the CACT. For the socialists, removing him from the management of the public company while guaranteeing his continued remuneration in the Cabildo empties any demand for responsibility of its content.

“Oswaldo Betancort is buying Ángel Vázquez's political silence with a release in the Cabildo. To the citizens he presents a dismissal, but to Vázquez he assures that he will continue within the government and collecting. That is the real scope of the responsibilities he is willing to demand,” denounces the spokesperson.

González rejects that the president "intends to consider the case closed with the change at the head of the Tourist Centers" and warns that Vázquez's permanence in the Governing Council "means keeping him at the core of the island executive's decisions".

“If what happened justified his departure from the CACT, Betancort has to explain why he considers it acceptable for him to continue being part of his government. He cannot present himself as someone who demands explanations and, at the same time, guarantees the political and economic continuity of the person from whom he supposedly demands them,” she maintains.

The socialists consider it especially serious that the Cabildo's structure is used to resolve a political crisis of Coalición Canaria and the Popular Party. “Public resources cannot be used to cushion the consequences of a scandal or to ensure the tranquility of the government pact. The people of Lanzarote do not have to pay the cost of protecting Ángel Vázquez,” adds González.

The PSOE of Lanzarote demands that Oswaldo Betancort put an end to Ángel Vázquez's release, remove him from the Governing Council, and explain the decisions adopted to keep him in the insular executive after his departure from the CACT.
