“Enough of this abandonment, of this passivity” pronounces Jonás Alvarez, PTG councilor in Teguise. “Of the more than 30 playgrounds we have in our municipality, we assure that, not even a dozen are in an acceptable state and are not safe for the enjoyment of the little ones. We have visited each of them and the assessments we make are disastrous. A series of negligences that do not make them safe", he states in a press release issued this Thursday.

The municipal party has gathered photos of the state of many parks in the municipality explaining that these are not new complaints, since the state of the parks worsens every month, that there is no maintenance in them and whose neighborhood complaints have been transferred to the city council and to the different media on repeated occasions without finding an answer.

“Actually we don't want to be untruthful”, Álvarez continues explaining. “Yes, there has been an answer, the usual one: they are working on it. They have been explaining to us that there is a project for the reform of playgrounds for a year. However, no one has seen it and we do not know what the reform consists of. Will they have shade spaces, which is something that families have been asking for for years? Will there be inclusive elements and spaces for all boys and girls? We would like to know the details of that project, and if they plan to execute it in this legislature, or are they going to do what they have us used to, which is to prolong the delay until they tire us”.

"In view of the events and the inaction of this government group", the municipal committee of Primero Teguise has made the decision "to demand that a real planning of the reform and adaptation of playgrounds be shown in which the execution deadlines can be seen".

Otherwise, "if that planning is not met, the political formation will take note of each playground that does not meet the necessary conditions for its use, and will notify the Local Police to proceed with its closure and thus guarantee the safety of the little ones in the municipality".

“What is not normal is that our playgrounds are falling to pieces, and the City Council is dedicated to launching revitalization projects and disseminating activities in them, attracting boys and girls and giving a terrible image to the municipality", he points out.

"What games are they going to offer in those activities if the swings are unusable, if the rubber is broken or if the park is missing half of the fences and pieces? We are not going to allow any lightness, we will ask that the regulations and the ordinance be strictly complied with”  reflects Jonás Álvarez, who concludes: “like the neighbors, we are also tired of waiting. They boasted of allocating 800,000 euros to fix the parks of Villa and Guatiza and today they are in worse condition than when they announced it. In Tahíche and Famara, more of the same, and in Costa Teguise, which is the town that has the most playgrounds in the municipality, all they have achieved is to demonstrate once again how abandoned they have the town".

To conclude, he points out that in "Primero Teguise we take institutional responsibilities very seriously, and we cannot tolerate the safety and well-being of the boys and girls of the municipality being taken lightly. We are not asking for impossible things or making demagoguery, it is about providing coverage to public services and making them useful so that all families can enjoy it. It is our duty to denounce and show the shortcomings of the municipality, and we will use the tools that are needed for it".
