While the PSOE launched an offer to the Canarian Coalition this Friday to form new majorities in the island's institutions, in the Arrecife City Council a request was being forged at the request of the Popular Party, the PIL and the PNL, who intend to hold an extraordinary plenary session in the capital. The objective: to remove powers from the Government Commission of the City Council.
Although the three parties would add an absolute majority in the plenary session to assert their position, and even to present a motion of censure, the absence of two councilors from the PIL (Ubaldo Becerra and José Miguel Rodríguez), who are currently in pre-trial detention, would mean that they would need the support of other political forces, at least while these two councilors do not hand over their seats and the next ones on the PIL list can assume the position.
For this reason, PP, PIL and PNL are seeking the support of the other two parties in the opposition, the Canarian Coalition and Citizen Alternative, to support the letter they intend to present next week. According to the PP councilor, Cándido Reguera, they are still pending to "draft the last extremes" of that text, with which they intend to show that the Socialist Party has become a minority.
In addition to returning to the plenary session the powers held by the Government Commission, the motion prepared by these three parties also includes other points, such as removing the mayor's power to grant subsidies, which would increase the blockade of the institution.
In principle, the Canarian Coalition would be the party least close to this initiative, while Citizen Alternative has agreed to study it in the assembly to be held next Tuesday. "The Arrecife City Council has not held a plenary session for three months. It is unsustainable," says the AC-25M councilor, Andrés Barreto. In any case, he also makes it clear that the PP, the PIL and the PNL "cannot say that they have us".
The decision will be in the hands of the Citizen Alternative assembly and, in any case, Barreto anticipates that in case "of accepting that proposal", they will set their own conditions.
